Depression is a multitude of symptoms ranging from sadness, crying, and tiredness. along with having a loss of interest in the things that you use to enjoy along with decreased sex drive and loss or gain of appetite. I know this because i suffer from depression and those are most of symptoms that i have. I am writing about this because most people including family members do not understand how depression can affect their loved ones if they suffer from depression. For instance, my mom and step dad dont understand how depression affects me and therefore they just think that i am lazy and just want to sleep all day. I have had numerous lectures/talks about how I need to stop being lazy and contribute around the house and to get my shit together. which for me only made my depression even worse and even wishing that i wasn’t here anymore and just made me almost cut myself and hide from the world. luckily for me Kaiser has a great behavioral health program and i have been attending an intensive outpatient program that is helping manage my depression and anxiety. It would also be very beneficial to you and your family if you had your therapist educate your family members on depression and anxiety. In order for them to be more sensitive with you and not be harsh and cruel and assume things that are not true!!!! If you can not go see a therapist right away you can always call the crisis line/suicide hotline at 18002738255. If you are too scared to call them writing about your feelings in a journal is another great way to get your feelings out in a healthy way!!!
