Arts and crafts

Like I have stated in my Alternative ways to cope with anxiety,  Keeping yourself busy doing arts and crafts is a great way for someone to get their mind off all of your troubles.

This advice is even advised by therapist, they call it self medicating because it keeps you calm keeps you busy to where you will be focusing on the arts and crafts you are doing and off of everything that you might be worrying and panicking about/

Now I myself have done tons of arts and crafts to keep myself busy, I have crocheted and colored with adult coloring books. there is a great store called Michaels that has everything you may need for your arts and crafts projects. Support

One of the most important things that anyone with a mental health illness needs is support from their loved ones. This individual needs the support of their loved ones, because they need to know that no matter what happens they have someone to support and love them no matter what. However, if you feel like you need to talk to someone and no one you love is available, then you can write in a journal. Writing in a journal helps because as you are writing down your feelings, your feelings and thoughts are released and you are instantly relieved. There are plenty of activities that you can do to alleviate your stress and anxiety. For example, you can ride a bike, you can take a walk, and you can also listen to music. Research has shown that individuals that listen to classical music while they are anxious and stress or even if they are having a panic attack, that they are gradually calming down because the tone of the music is calming and that slows down their heart rate and are back to a normal rhythm, furthermore, you also need professional help, such as a therapist and a psychiatrist. You can also join a support group. I have a friend who is bipolar and she has a therapist, psychiatrist and she goes to a support group and she has told me that joining a support group for individuals who are bipolar really helps her.

How to deal with a loved one or significant other that has anxiety or depression.

If someone you love weather it be a loved one or your significant other that has anxiety and/or depression, you need to understand that the way they’re acting or saying is beyond their control. From my experience with being with my boyfriend. One thing that you have to know and understand is that with someone suffering from anxiety, That person worries constantly and will sometimes worry about a little thing and make it into a bigger thing. The one thing that you should not do if that happens is argue with them and also do not tell them that they are being ridiculous. All we want our significant other to do is be very understanding and just get it in your head that the worrying that they do is really out of their control. If we start to rant or rave about something, all we want you to do is be supportive and loving.

Now with someone who has depression, you also need to know is that their depression is also out of their control and sometimes it will kick in out of nowhere and when that happens they lose interest in everything and all they want to do is just stay home and sleep and mope. What the other needs to know is to not treat it lightly or get mad at them if all of a sudden they tell you that they do not want to do anything and that they just want to stay home, especially if plans were made. What the significant other has to do is just go over to their place and hug them and kiss them and support them, all they need to know is that they are loved.

Alternative ways to cope with anxiety and depression.

If all other ways I have said and suggested on how to cope with anxiety and depression didnt work. Here are other alternatives. One alternative is to keep yourself and your hands busy. With me what I did is that i took up crocheting and that kept my mind off of the stuff that would consume my mind with worry. Another alternative is to adopt a pet, Before i even got diagnosed with anxiety I had 3 cats and 1 dog that I absolutely loved. They kept me busy and entertained, plus they will show you unconditional love no matter what and that is a totally awesome feeling that you have someone that will love you and cuddle with you all the time.

A few things you should never say to someone who is depressed and has anxiety

One of things you should never  say to someone who is depressed is “you’re depressed again” that just makes them mad to say that because it sounds like you dont really care about their well being,

another thing you should never say to someone that has anxiety is “its all in your head” that is one of my personal favorites. That just pisses me off. because, if it was just all in our heads dont you think that we would have tried that. Nobody wants to feel all anxious and frustrated all the time.

another thing that you should never say to someone who is depressed and anxious is “I know how you feel” unless you have depression and anxiety you will never feel or know how debilitating it is to have depression and anxiety.

Another one of my favorites is “stop worrying all the time” believe me if that was possible at all, we would have already done that. It is so debilitating to constantly worry all the time. for me I can not go to sleep because we are constantly worrying about every little thing.

So if you know someone who has depression and anxiety, one of the best things you can do for them is be understanding and dont judge them because of their mental illness.

Coping with anxiety

For those who suffer from anxiety. I will tell you different ways to cop with anxiety and how to calm yourself down without medication,

The first way to cope with anxiety is too do some deep breathing exercises,

Second. ground yourself through meditation. Find a quiet place and sit down and drown out all your thoughts and noises. After five minutes you will be cool, calm, and collected.

Third, You can try exercising, like running or walking outside. exercise helps you breath more  which will calm you down!!!

Anxiety is a bitch to live with!!!!

okay so for those of you who dont know me. I suffer from anxiety.  anxiety. it is a bitch to deal with and it can be debilitating at times when your anxiety is way. For me i have excessive worrying. what this means is that i forever and constantly worrying about stupid little things and if worse comes to worse I blow things out of proportion and that fuels my anxiety even more , which in turn causes me to get a panic attack. panic attacks are a bitch to have. you our of breath, and feel like youre having a heart attack. your muscles are constricted so you can not move at all. So now that you all know how anxiety works, you all can stop telling people with anxiety that is all in their heads. it is so not in our heads we cant help it. also, stop telling us that all we need to do is stop worrying, If that was all we had to do dont you think that we would have already done and cured our anxiety.

My Experiences

okay so I will be talking about my experiences working with children. before I do that here is some background information about me. Well pretty much all my life I have been great with kids and love children. I have a Bachelor’s degree in psychology. One of my firsts job after college was working at a group home for teens and adolescence. I would make sure they were safe and making the right decisions so that they will become productive members of society. I also taught them how to fill out a job application. How to write a resume and how to take advantage of the benefits they have for being in the foster care system. I also taught them how to cope with their anger and emotional issues.

After that,  I worked at several ABA companies as a Behavior therapist. My job as a behavior therapist was to go to my clients homes and implement their behavior and educational plans, collecting data on those lessons to help document their success. Also I would teach them how they can communicate with someone if they were non verbal, by using an Ipad device that has a communication app or by having them use pictures and picture schedules.

out of all of my many jobs with children, I absolutely loved being a Behavior therapist. My clients were so cute and it was so rewarding to see my clients learning the material and doing well on their lessons.

My future career goals are to become a certified BCBA (board certified behavior analyst) and if possible start my own ABA therapy business to help more children be productive members of society.
